Quarina

From Andorith

An island neighborhood/small city-state that used to house the capitol of the Ancient Andorith Church. It used to lie across the ocean further away, until something happened and brought it here. It is a city state and its own nation. There is a bridge that connects Quarina to Andorith, named after Narinder Murali, Aditi's father, who is a famous painter from the city. Has fishing and farming, relatively self-sustaining. Lots of implications that it is not actually under Andorith's rule. This island nation is built on top of an ancient sea creature that has been dormant for a long time. There are ways to direct it, but it hasn't been done in a long time. The island nation of Quarina have legendary produce because they have storehouses of seeds and legendary fertilizer from across the seeds. Smuggling is a big problem as people try to pirate dirt, sourdough starter, and seeds. The island sailed here for the purpose of reuniting Andorith's scattered religions, and has been slowly working on that for centuries now as they settled in.

Modern Flooding

Storms have flooded the Quarina terraced cemetery of the lower classes. Dough Row worried about tourism impact. Don't want to be seen as spiritually and bacterially unclean. How much honor does duty demand we give the ancient dead? Illegal grave dirt smuggling!

Demographics

Religion

Quarina was once ground zero for the Ancient Andorith Church, and that legacy's influence can still be seen everywhere. Ancient religious idols and carved imagery peer over doorways, peek out of park foliage, gaze out across roofs, battlements, and gutters; and permeate public sidewalks, cornices, and fountains. Annual government-funded public feasts and processions are greeted island-wide with secular national pride, but their ancient religious origins are easily gleaned just beneath the surface.

Quarina is home to The Prismatic Guild, world headquarters of the Eye of the Silk Coin. Note that this is the cult's only permanent building due to the religion stipulating that rites must occur outside or in clergies' homes.

Crime

An urban legend panic has caused Customs to enact a curfew for minors in Night Market. There has been a sharp increase in late-night teen rowdiness in Quarina due to Andorith teens avoiding curfew.

Relationship with Other Neighborhoods

Other neighborhoods perceive Quarina as a place where everything's legal, given their openness towards drugs and unique status as a separate nation that is also a neighborhood in the city. They are also viewed as cold towards the dead.
