Amaith the Last Tree of Andorith
Mother of Rafferty Longhorn and wife of Carokole, Amaith was one of the great wizards of Andorith and a subject of legends.
The Legend of the Last Tree
An acclaimed wizard and poet, Amaith built the leylines of Andorith, connecting it to the global network of magic, pushing Andorith from backwater province to powerhouse. The changes this brings caused her, and the city, great conflict, which she writes about at length, hoping to find the truth at last: did she do the right thing?
Marriage
Carokole and Amaith grew from rivals to friends and then lovers. They butted heads in creative writing class of "genre" among other things. However, this conflict eventually grew into respect and then admiration. They rugged shoulder in poetry circles in college and married a few years after graduation; shortly after she gave birth to Rafferty.
However, Carokole and Amaith clashed on Rafferty's upbringing. This conflict did not make them stronger, instead it caused them to drift apart.
Disappearance
As Amaith struggled with her legacy, she continued to return to the Wyride, where the leyline bleeds power into the world. Though many, even Rafferty, didn't know it, Amaith had a persistence illness/spell that meant her time on the plane of Andorith was limited. It is said that one of the last things she said was to her son: "The world is already broken, you just filled a hole." Referring to the fact that Rafferty was not a monster or a freak, rather a being that had a place in the world.
Now a tree grows from the place where Amaith left. Some say that the tree and her are one in the same, but we may never know.
