Tube Mold
The Tube Mold is a primordial, gargantuan, single fungus that spans the entire Maw. During the earliest formation of the Maw, the Tube Mold existed as widely distributed, and distinct, colonies, similar to traditional mushrooms. Over time the colonies spread their feeding tubers to connect with other colonies forming a large, interconnected network. Eventually all colonies in the Maw were connected and formed a central hub with countless feeders and distribution nodes. The feeders consist of hollow and extremely elastic tubes with a variety of protuberances resembling carnivorous plants such as the sundew, pitcher plant, and fly-trap. These range from very tiny to large enough to trap, and engulf, several halflings at once. Once thus captured, the prey is moved into and through the feeder tubes where they are digested by very strong acids and channeled to the central hub. The hub of the Tube Mold has never been discovered and there is no known lore as to its location or nature.
