Ley Lines

"Natural" ley lines are formed by connections between extraplanar weather. Ley lines can be adjusted by other places of import or magic forming, or by just magically shifting them, as was done by Amaith, the Last Tree of Andorith.
Ley lines give off magical energy, useful for spells and for sustenance for entities that lack ley souls, or living beings that do not have a way to ingest energy in other ways (e.g. cannot eat because they are animate rocks).
