Golden Tangler
The golden tangler is a stout, shrub-like flower covered in thick, cascading spines. A single large golden flower grows at its crown. Similar in shape to a bonsai willow, its poisonous spines are coated in a fast-acting neurotoxin.
The golden tangler's meaty stalk is a delicacy and -- if its spines are removed by a professional chef -- can make a substantial and prestigious meal. However, if the spines are mishandled during food preparation, diners may become ill and even die. When the stalk is roasted with autumn nuts, it is one of the national dishes of the southern region.
Golden tanglers are traditionally planted in gardens dedicated to the Southern Kingdom's great river goddess, as they are seen as beautiful symbols of life and death.
