Demimorph
Description
The Demimorph first appeared in the game Palanquin as the pet to Periani, the Hunter. In that game it was described as:
Creature, jet black, a cross between a cheetah and a whippet, has hawk wings, six legs, growl-shrieks. Named Tanari (tah' - nah - ree) a Demimorph, native apex-predator to the Green Maw.
- Body is slender but muscular with short fur, colored black with darker black patches, similar to a black panther.
- Head is feline in appearance but long and slender like a whippet.
- Tail is thin and straight like a whippet but as long as its body which is between 2 and 3 meters and extremely flexible like a cat.
- Legs:
- Hind legs are more like a whippet in form with small, long, paws concealing three razor-sharp, sheathed, claws.
- Forelegs are also similar to a whippet, again with three sheathed claws, but slightly longer than the hind legs causing the demimorph to stand with shoulders raised above rump, similar to a hyena.
- Central legs are more muscular, like a cheetah, with four sheathed claws and are typically tucked up under the belly during full run.
- Wings are like a falcons and it has a heavily muscled chest to power short bursts of very fast flight.
Behavior
Native to the Green Maw, the demimorph hunts mostly by running along the ground of the twilight zone, using it's legs and claws to jump and climb obstacles and trees. When necessary, it will use its wings for a short burst of flight to gain a little extra height and/or distance. It captures primarily using its center legs, sinking it's claws deeply into the prey to disable and secure it while hastening to safety in order to feed.
Demimorphs are solitary, pairing only for mating. There is no sexual dimorphism in this species.
