Propeller Tree

One of the tallest trees in the Maw, the Propeller Tree grows up from the Abyssal and Twilight layers to reach above the crown. The wood is soft, similar to balsa, and the tree grows very straight, narrow, and quickly. Its seeds are large and ovoid with three long propeller-like blades extending from the top. The propeller effect is so efficient that seeds can flutter down kilometers away from their source before landing. Children make toys similar to tops where they wind string around the seed pod and pull it from a launcher sending it up quite high. They're frequently ornately decorated with intricate carvings, paint, and streamers of yarn.
